Journal Entry #2 (cups)

CUPS

Cups have been serving purpose throughout the world for many centuries. And most likely will continue serving a purpose into the next generations. Cups are used for function and decoration.

The function of a cup is typically used to serve liquids of some sort or sometimes even solids. We use cups every day and not just to get a cup of coffee or water. If you really think about bowls, vases, fish bowls, etc- are all cups, just with different shapes and sizes all serving a purpose to what accomplish what a cup does; hold something.

The shapes of cups are altered to either a: to flatter the eye b: to change the perspective of what is being served in it or c: to do both a and b. As Peter Pinnell said "...the shape, the texture, the color, type of rim it, has will all affect the way we will perceive the liquid were drinking..." Which is all very true.

Cups affect our every day lives. If we did not have cups what would we drink with a plate? our hands? If the basis of a cup did not exist our world today would be very different, we wouldn't have spoons or anything that represent that rounded shape. Therefore, cups place a very important role in world.
