cups with no handles Journal #2

When making mugs you have the choice and giving them handles or no handles. some reasons on why people would actually not need a handle is if the mug has a good thickness to it, and it has hot liquid in it, the mug will keep your hands warm with out burning your hands as well.
Another reason for not having a handle is back when mugs where made from wood or bones you couldn't always carve a handle onto the material you were working with unlike now with porcelain and such its easier to shape.
Ancient tea sets from china perhaps do not have handles as well because it is a traditional or ancient tea set that could have been passed down from generation to generation.

"Whereas ancient mugs were usually carved in wood or bone or shaped of clay, most modern ones are made of ceramic materials such as earthenware, bone china, porcelain or stoneware."

"Our favorite way to drink chai in India is in tiny, one-use clay cups. If there are 3 chai wallahs next to each other, we always choose the one with clay cups. It’s authentic, tactile and fun. And the cups themselves are beautiful, in the most simple way. Many travelers attempt to carry one home to remember India by, taking the utmost care to preserve the delicate vessel by swaddling it with meters of fabric. I know—I’ve tried."
