First Assignment for ART 265

Assignment 1- Get your Head Together

This first assignment will address some basic modeling and research into anatomy and the vast diversity of focus in the figure within both contemporary and historical ceramics.

This link will lead you into your first influences in the figurative direction in clay.

The artists listed in this show of heads are some of the top in the contemporary field. Find some direct influence in at least one of these artists. For the first 2 pieces you will need no knowledge of craft. These two pieces will be solid clay and be smaller than life size. Make each head with three baseball size pieces of clay.

The first head will be without direction and will be due on Monday April 2nd. Both heads will be due on the 9th.

Use the Show of heads link, and this YouTube video for reference points.

You will find a large garbage can by the black table that is filled with red clay. Use this clay. There are shelves next to the tables where you can store your heads. Work over the weekend and I will see you on Monday.  I am at a conference this first day and will not make it in.  I promise to bring you all back some great images and information from the conference.

If you are on the west side from now until school starts please take advantage of all the fantastic clay shows. There is a national conference in Seattle called NCECA. It is the National Organization of Education on the Ceramic Arts.  The main show is in Bellevue at BAM. If you can go to the show!!! WOW!!

This hopefully explains why I have to miss your first class. Sorry!  I will send your syllabus as soon as I can.  See you on Monday April 2nd.

Best,

Professor Robison
