The idea for something to be visually intriguing for me; I like to see shape, design, color, and a variable that makes the piece speak to me. However, the variable is the most important thing that offsets everything else. The variable can be
For example Marie Weichman’s “Squeeze Me Teapot” is distinguished by it’s abstract shape, materials and design. The abstract shape and design are the variable that allows this piece to be visually interesting. It makes you wonder was this a mistakethat turned into something given the right name or was Weichman actually aiming to create a teapot.shape, design or color. What makes the variable different from all of the other color, shape, and design, is in the way it used to make the piece unique.
A second example is Wayne Higby’s “Cloud Pot.” Higby’s cloud pot stands out because of the uniqueness of the shape and the content all meshes well together. The color, content, and the fact you’re probably never going to see a piece like this.
With all of those examples in mind, things I find visually intriguing are pieces that catch my attention and make you wonder why you would create a piece of that nature.
