Feet on bowls---Ting Yi Yu

The artist Warren Mackenzie made Footed Shino Bowl. I like the unique texture and the shape itself, and the color on this bowl. It looks very stylize.

The Shoji Hamada Bowl has very interesting pattern on it. The inside bowl’s vein texture looks like the branches.

The artist Bernard Leach made the Facetted Bowl has classic color, and the angular shapes of the bowl looks very unique as well. This is my favorite bowl from this assignment.

This Bowl was made by Clary Illian and I like the colors on this bowl. Look very playful and the feet have very classic lines on it.

Linda Christensen is the one who made this bowl. I like the flower shape if you look the bowl from the top. Different colors on the inside and outside. The special white color on the edge looks very interesting.

Favorite Cups -Ting Yi Yu

Nichols Bivins”Liquor Cups” is one of my favorite cups. The whole set is very cohesive and elegant. Especially the colors on the cups which are green and white make me feel warm and comfortable mood. It makes me think of Japanese traditional tea.

My other favorite cups are made by Sam Chung “Cloud Cups”. On the cups, there are clouds and it looks very playful and relaxes.

Jeff Oestreish’s “Untitled Bowl” is also one of my favorite cups. It looks more like a tea cup instead of a bowl, and the color and the pattern looks just perfectly on this bowl.

Ayumi Horie is also one of my favorite artists. She made the “Monkey and Bird Dish” and for me, I think it is a very adorable works of art. Those Birds and the monkey were done by lines and although there are no color on those cute graphics, the red dots shows vivid and playful prospect.

5 Tips for throwing a cylinder

I think the top 5 tips for throwing a basic cylinder are:

You have to lubrication you hands so your hands and cylinder will not friction during throwing.

Centered it and plunge pointer finger. Don’t rest the hand on the wheel itself. Find the equal pressure between the tub, until the tub meet up.

Use the thumb to plunge pointer the cylinder. Twist in to the clay and go down.

And the “three pulls” is the one tip I think is the most important during the throwing. Working only on northeast or east side by using sponge. Pull the clay three times and one more shape pull.

Use the rib to compress and clean. It helps you compress the pot further, get straight back the pot sitting there absorb water. It squeezes the water out by using the rib and use the sponge to clean the pot.
