Journal #3 Taylor Blouin
Warren Mackenzie has this piece that caught my eye. It is not some abstract crazy artwork and is simple but has character. I like that he takes pieces from the wheel and carves and manipulates them while using bland colors to give it an authentic look.
Linda Arbuckle has very vibrant and bright pieces. She incorporates leaves very well and in this piece gives the leaves a raised lip protruding from the bowl itself. I like that she uses glaze and 3-D creative ways to give her pieces unique looks and texture.
Shoji Hamada :I really like this piece because it almost seems like it is a down sized object or geological formation. It’s a bowl but yet its also a box. To me it seems like a cut out section of a mountain and the earths crust. Its unique in the fact that yes it is a bowl but just because it functions like a bowl doesn’t mean it has to look like every other bowl.
Suze Lindsay has an interesting form of art to me. I like that her pieces don’t appear to be machine made or perfected on the wheel. They show that imperfections can make a piece a lot more interesting. This bowl has a huge crack which makes it a less functional bowl but also shows that life happens and not everything will be always perfect.
